Versa Products, Inc. Wins Award for Split-Level Computer Desk
Hawthorne, California. January 2006. - Versa Products, Inc. a leading California-based manufacturer of computer furniture was announced the winner last month in Furniture Design Magazines' Classroom Furniture Design Competition. The 30" Split-Level computer desk, a compact, laminate-finished computer lab workstation, took first place for its unique design and attention to ergonomics.
The split-level desk has two work surfaces with a recessed rear surface to support a computer monitor. The lowered work platform allows the student to see the monitor, meeting OSHA Guidelines for proper ergonomics, while also maintaining a clear view of the front of the classroom without twisting or straining to see around or over the monitor. In addition, the front work surface provides ample space for the student to write, spread out books, or follow along in workbooks.
"Within days of the announcement that we won first place, we were overwhelmed with orders for split-level classroom desks," said Chris Stormer, VP of Marketing at Versa. "We literally authorized overtime for everyone in the factory just to meet the demand we were receiving." In the early stages of the design process for the split-level desk, Versa went to more than 30 teachers to get their opinions on key features. "A desk is as much of a teaching and management tool in a classroom as anything else," Stormer explained. "We wanted to hear what the teachers wanted out of a student workstation, and we knew it would be more than just a place to sit and write."
After listening to what the experienced educators had to say, the designers at Versa went to work to create a product that was not only functional, but enhanced the learning environment. "We have lofty goals," Stormer confided with a smile. "But winning such a prestigious award tells me that seeing the furniture manufacturing process as more than just bolting together wood and steel makes a difference." Split-level classroom desks are not the only furniture Versa designs and customizes for any of the 128 universities, high schools, and elementary schools it services. Versa Products, Inc. offers a complete line of computer lab furniture for single and multiple users with a variety of features to fit the needs of every educator.
