Buying the right monitor arm is important when in the market for computer furniture accessories, but it shouldn’t be confusing or difficult. First, decide whether you need a single or dual arm. Many computers now support to monitors at the same time, and many people– who now rely on computers for work and at home– have two monitors side by side on their desk. Then, decide how you would like to mount your monitor. Several options exist. You can mount the arm to the shelf, the desktop, or a pole. Different hardware is needed for each mounting option, but each arm mounts to the monitor itself using the same style standard bolt plate.
Monitor arms are designed to fit universally with nearly every LCD monitor on the market, so you needn’t worry that it won’t be compatible to your existing monitor if the monitor was purchased in the past two or three years. If you purchase a monitor arm from Versa Products, Inc., you are covered. Shipping is free, and any product– including monitor arms– can be returned within 30 days under a money-back satisfaction guarantee. Purchase one and find out it doesn’t fit with your monitor… simply send it back for a full refund. Easy as that.

A CPU holder can be fitted to almost any desk to lift the CPU off the floor. This is better for the user, who won’t have to deal with the reduced leg room under the desk being taken up by the CPU and it also prevents the CPU from being knocked over or kicked. For carts or computer desks with casters, a CPU holder– specifically an enclosed one– is best because it insures that the CPU will remain safe while the cart or desk is in motion.
CPU holders come in different styles. Some are simple platforms that can be elevated and adjusted on a pole. Others consist of a single clamp, and the higher grade CPU holders consist of double clamps to hold the CPU firmly and securely in place. Regardless of the type you get, they all benefit the user and the CPU alike.

Computer desk frames are constructed of 14-gauge American steel tubing. This material is chosen because of its superior durability and ability to maintain a solid structure to support heavy computer equipment without compromising over the course of a few years. Once the tubing for a computer desk is cut to size, it is coated with a scratch-resistant paint to prevent chipping. The various parts of the frame are welded together by hand and then double-checked for possible flaws before the computer desk is ever packaged.
The unassembled frame pieces are packed along with high grade hardware and shipped. The pieces, once assembled at their destination, make for a solid, well-constructed computer desk.

Furniture accessories, when referring to computer desks and classroom or office furniture, include additional, usually upgradeable items such as LCD monitor arms, printer platforms, and articulating keyboard arms and trays. Accessories for computer furniture serve some function that makes computer use more convenient for the particular user.
Don’t be fooled by campaigns by furniture manufacturers to sell you accessories you don’t need. Decide what functions you need your computer desk to serve, which additional pieces of equipment you use frequently along with your computer, and it will help you narrow down which furniture accessories are right for you. Other accessories include cable management systems, speaker platforms, and additional CPU holders.

Computer carts serve very different needs than computer desks. When mobility and easy transport is key, computer carts are your best bet. Traditional computer desks often have more space and optional shelving, making extended use easier and the work environment more organized. But the user need not sacrifice ergonomic support and comfort simply because he or she is using a computer cart. Retractable, articulating keyboard arms, LCD arms, and CPU holders can be fitted on most computer carts, customizing them and providing as much functionality as a computer desk.

Manufacturers of computer furniture often start with raw materials like steel tubing, hardware, and wood. Once the raw materials are delivered to the factory, they go through a process which can take days, or even weeks, before they become computer furniture. The tubing is cut to size specifications and the wood is sawed and laminated. The steel is then coated with a scratch-proof material to ensure that computer furniture maintains its “new” look for years to come. Once the parts are cut and drilled, the pieces are assembled and then submitted to one or more quality control tests.
By the time a piece of computer furniture is boxed and shipped, it has been through several processes to ensure that once assembled by the consumer, he/she will have a product he/she is happy with.

The perfect computer desk should have the following features:
1. Solid frame constructed of high-quality steel
2. Laminated, stain-resistant platforms that adjust in height
3. A height-adjustable keyboard tray with ergonomically correct properties
4. Platforms for printers, speakers, books
5. A well-designed CPU holder
Most computer desks can be bought as the most basic model and upgraded with accessories to fit the user’s needs. A desk should reflect the user’s personality as well as the environment in which it is used. Customizing is always an option, and is often cheaper than purchasing a computer desk with more features than needed.

Regardless of whether you’re purchasing furniture for a university computer lab, or one in an elementary school, or dormitory, computer lab furniture should be designed for lab work. Because of the frequency of use by multiple users, it is imperative that platforms and keyboards be easily height-adjustable. Plenty of work space should be provided for books, papers, etc.
In a computer lab environment, offering as many workstations as possible is important, so multi-user desks may be the best option. In addition to the aforementioned features, cable management systems are also ideal in preventing trip hazard injuries as well as reducing the risk of harming equipment.

Computer furniture now comes in as many different designs as traditional desks do, each with different features based on the user’s needs. From computer desks to laptop carts, to wall mounts, to multi-user workstations, the market is flooded with the newest improvements. But which type of computer furniture is best for a classroom? Obviously, the needs of a student– or multiple students that pass through a classroom each day– are different than a single employee who works at his/her desk doing the same tasks day in, day out.
Classroom computer furniture should meet the needs of the students, the teacher, and the space constraints. Single- and multi-user products are available. Single platform designs, as well as split-level desks and multi-platform desks are also prominent in the computer furniture market. Regardless of the style you choose, the computer furniture should be durable, height-adjustable, and follow proper ergonomic guidelines.

Choosing a wire management kit to fit your needs should be easy. Wire management kits, also called cable management systems, are simply a device for securing loose cords and wires, making for a safer work environment for both the user and the computer. A loose wire can easily be tripped on, or yanked out of place, when strewn across the floor on its way to a surge protector. A wire management kit will keep cables together, secure them near the frame of the desk or against the baseboard, and will also look much nicer.
There are several different types of cable management kits. Some are more industrial than others, and some offer more protection from potentially hazardous spills or wet environments. A kit can be purchased for relatively little money, and is usually available where computer furniture is sold.

With all the attention paid to the importance of ergonomics in computer desk and keyboard tray design, it’s equally important to consider ergonomics in selecting the right height-adjustable chair. The lack of proper body positioning– often created by a chair that is not designed with human engineering in mind, or set at the incorrect height– can lead to fatigue, discomfort, and after time, injury.
The body will compensate for ill-adjusted computer chairs and LCD monitors. This compensation causes specific parts of the body to overwork, or work in unnatural positions for long periods of time. Specialists in ergonomic designs caution users that repetitive use injuries in the workplace are most often caused– for computer users– when they do not take time to adjust the height of their chair seats or the height of the arm rests.

Any time you have a computer, you have cables. And cable management, while not a major concern for most, is important when considering the visual presentation of an office or classroom, and for risk and safety management. Because a jumble of wires and cables usually snake across the floor and wind up stuffed into surge protectors, they are usually where they can be easily tripped on or accidentally yanked out by a vacuum cleaner.
Adding an easy-to-install cable management system can clean up the appearance of offices of and school classrooms, and ensure that wires won’t be inadvertently pulled out of expensive computer equipment. Most wire management kits pull the cables together and confine them to the sides or back of the computer desk frame, reducing the number of “pull points” where a cable can be forced away from the larger structure.
