Posted on Tuesday 27 February 2007

Imagine sitting in a chair at your desk for eight hours or more. If you are sitting in the wrong type of chair your back and neck can get very tired or sore. Wouldn’t it be much better if you could be more comfortable and concentrate on your work instead of thinking about how your back is aching?

The same is true for your staff. If your workers are comfortable the quality of work they do will be much better and they will feel more satisfied working for you.

Make sure the chairs in your office are ergonomically designed. Choose a chair that can be height adjusted for maximum comfort.

Avoiding Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Posted on Friday 23 February 2007

You have probably heard of computer users suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Carpal Tunnel is caused by prolonged, repetitive motions. Medical professionals refer to this ailment as Repetitive Strain Injury or RSI.

The motion of the wrists and hands when operating a keyboard can be a major contributor to the onset of RSI. However, there are things you can do to help avoid suffering from this condition. Replace your keyboard with one that is ergonomically designed. The use of a keyboard tray on most modern computer desks reduces the strain place on your hands and wrists by lowering the keyboard in relation to the desk top.

If you spend a lot of time working at a keyboard try to keep your wrists straight while you are typing. An adjustable ergonomic chair can make a big difference too. Adjust the height of your chair so that your elbows are at about the same height as your wrists.

Finally, take rest breaks and flex your hands and wrists to work out any tension. You may be facing deadlines, but if you spend too much time at your keyboard you will risk damaging your wrists.

Arranging Furniture to Avoid Stress in Your Office

Posted on Monday 19 February 2007

Setting up an office is more than just lining up computer desks and putting chairs under them. To reduce stress and pain from repetitive motions careful attention needs to be paid to how you arrange your office furniture in relation to the accessories that are most often used.

If you are constantly stretching to reach for a file cabinet, copier, paper cutter or other office tool those things need to be placed conveniently so that you will be able to reach them in the easiest and most efficient way.

Another way to reduce stress is to get up from your desk and walk around occasionally. Sitting in the same position for long periods of time can cause neck and back pain.

You want your office to be a comfortable place to work in. Proper arrangement of your furniture and accessories can go a long way in increasing your comfort and reducing your stress.

Laptop Carts Can Make Your Job Easier

Posted on Saturday 17 February 2007

If your job requires you to carry around a laptop computer you know how difficult it can be to find a place to lay everything out. I used to travel a lot for my job and would sometimes be working on-site for 7 to 10 days at a time. A laptop computer cart made my job so much easier.

For my laptop I carried an extra keyboard and mouse. I also carried my own printer. Before I started using the laptop cart it was always a hassle trying to find space to set everything up when I was working on-site for a client.

With a laptop cart you can set everything on it, including a printer or other peripheral, and when you’re done for the day just roll it all out to the van or lock it up in an office when that is available.

Cable and Wire Management Kits Protect Your Investment

Posted on Saturday 10 February 2007

We recently brought in a new member to our household. A cute and loveable puppy that we named Tilly. Tilly loves to hang out under my computer desk and one of the first things that she started doing was chewing on my cables! That’s when I realized how important it is to keep your cables and power cords up and out of the way. You do not want to have expensive cables destroyed nor do you want to have your pet injured by chewing on a power cable.

Cable and wire management kits are some of the best investments that you can make in your home office. They are very inexpensive, but can save you money and time required to replace your cables which can often be difficult and time consuming and can cause you ‘down time’. Not only do cable management kits serve to protect your investment they can make your home office look better.
