Computer Desks for Industrial Work Environments

Posted on Thursday 19 January 2006

Computer desks aren’t just designed for offices and school computer labs. As the use of PCs in industrial environments, such as factories, warehouses, and security hubs, have been on the rise, the need to provide safe, secure storage for these computers has also increased. Not all PC desks are used in a temperature-controlled, protected environment, and these factors must be taken into consideration when designing a computer desk for an industrial setting.

Computer desks in such environments should have several features to protect the user, as well as the expensive equipment it’s designed to support. They should be ergonomically sound with height adjustable platforms, adjusting also to the reach of the individual user, adjusting easily when multiple employees use the computer on a regular basis. They should be constructed of high gauge, durable steel, and move easily on locking casters so that they may be secured easily when not in use-sometimes in a storable closet or other confined locations. They should lock the CPU and monitor in place to prevent slippage and harm to expensive PCs. A wire management system should also come standard in an effort to minimize the risk of trip hazards and equipment breakage. Adjustable, articulating spider LCD display arms allow for a monitor to be used in multiple positions.
