CTS Prevention and Ergonomics

CTS prevention is an important aspect of providing a safe environment for employees and eliminating the risk of workplace injury. CTS, an abbreviation for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, is a painful, debilitating injury caused by overuse of keyboard manipulation coupled with improper body positioning. Hundreds of thousands of office employees suffer from CTS, and worker comp claims, along with missed work days cost businesses millions of dollars each year. The good news, is that Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can be reduced and even eliminated by proper ergonomics.

CTS prevention factors include a well-designed computer workstation that adjusts to the user’s height and reach. Computer tables and desks must be comfortable, which will in turn, reduce fatigue, and allow for proper posture during use. Tilting work surfaces, articulating and extending keyboards, and rotating spider LCD display arms are important features of a desk that provides for proper ergonomics.
