Ergonomic Desks for Office and Home
Posted on Thursday 19 January 2006
Ergonomic desks are the basis for safe, functional work environments. Whether you’re furnishing an entire business suite or a single dorm room, any computer workstation should be comfortable for the user, reducing fatigue and injuries that result from improper body alignment. Ergonomically correct computer desks should include a height-adjustable platform for the monitor, or a rotating LCD display arm. This feature will prevent the user from craning his/her neck to see the monitor. The LCD should then be adjusted at eye level, so the user can see the monitor with relaxed neck and shoulders.
Ergonomic desks should also have an adjustable or articulating keyboard tray and arm. The keyboard should be positioned below the desk surface, preventing the user from reaching upward to type or manipulate the mouse.
Correct ergonomics has been proven to reduce fatigue, increase productivity and minimize the risk of overuse injuries like CTS.
