How You Can Go “Green” At the Office

Posted on Thursday 28 February 2008

Everyday more people around the world are joining in the fight to make a change in the damage that’s been done to our environment. There’s several things that you can do to help make the world a greener place!

Approximately 360 million ink and toner cartridges are used each year. Although, they’re fairly small, the huge number of them is a large problem. These can be recycled at most office supply stores, can be refilled or traded in for a discount when you buy new ones. Not only will you be helping the environment, you’ll be saving money!

Another way that you can help is to recycle all of your electronic equipment. The computers, monitors, scanners and other items used in the office contain toxic materials such as lead and mercury.

You can do your part to keep these chemicals out of our landfills. If the equipment still works and you’re just upgrading, you may want to consider donating them to non-profit organizations, such as a school. And, many manufacturers of these items will also accept them to be recycled when you purchase new ones.

You can even call your local recycling office to see what types of electronic equipment they accept. It may take a little more effort to recycle than it does to just toss things in the trash, but if we all do our part we can make the world a cleaner place for future generations!
